Framed Print of Samuel Webb, Continental Army Officer
Samuel Blachley Webb (December 13, 1753 - December 3, 1807) was an American revolutionary war soldier. He first saw action at Bunker Hill, where he was wounded in the head. He joined the staff of General George Washington in 1776 as his aide and private secretary with the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. He maintained his friendship with George Washington in civilian life, particularly after Washington took up residence in New York. The 9th Connecticut Regiment was a regiment of the Continental Army during the American Revolutionary War. It was first called Webb's Additional Continental Regiment (after its colonel, Samuel Blachley Webb) before being added to the Connecticut Line in 1780. It saw action at Setauket in 1777, Rhode Island in 1778, and Springfield, New Jersey in 1780, and was generally active in the defense of Connecticut, southern New York, and northern New Jersey. He died in 1807, 10 days before his 54th birthday. © New York Public Library / Science Source
