Framed Print of Samuel Morse, American Inventor
Samuel Finley Breese Morse (April 27, 1791 - April 2, 1872) was an American inventor. In 1832 he witnessed experiments with Charles Jackson's electromagnet which led him to develop the concept of a single-wire telegraph. He was also the co-developer of the Morse code which became the primary language of telegraphy in the world. Morse received a patent for the telegraph in 1847. The Morse telegraphic apparatus was officially adopted as the standard for European telegraphy in 1851. © New York Public Library / Science Source
