Framed Print of Joseph Nicephore Niepce, French Inventor
Joseph Nicéphore Niépce (March 7, 1765 - July 5, 1833) was a French inventor, credited as the inventor of photography. In 1822 Niépce took what is believed to be the world's first photogravure etching, an engraving of Pope Pius VII, but the original was later destroyed when he attempted to duplicate it. In 1825 he developed heliography, a technique he used to create the world's oldest surviving product of a photographic process: a print made from a photoengraved printing plate. In 1826-27, he used a primitive camera to produce the oldest surviving photograph of a real-world scene. In 1829 he began collaborating on improved photographic processes with Louis Daguerre, and together they developed the physautotype, a process that used lavender oil. Among his other inventions was the Pyréolophore, the world's first internal combustion engine, which he conceived, created, and developed with his older brother Claude. Nicéphore squandered much of the family fortune chasing inappropriate business opportunities for the Pyréolophore. He died in 1833 at the age of 68. © National Library of Medicine / Science Source

Wood effect frame, card mounted, 10x8 fade resistant photo print. Overall outside dimensions 14x12 inches (36x31cm). Environmentally and ozone friendly, 40mm wide x 15mm Polycore® moulding has the look of real wood, is durable and light and easy to hang. Biodegradable and made with non-chlorinated gases (no toxic fumes) it is efficient; producing 100 tons of polystyrene can save 300 tons of trees! Prints are glazed with lightweight, shatterproof, optical clarity acrylic (providing the same general protection from the environment as glass). The back is stapled hardboard with a sawtooth hanger attached. Note: measurements provided are estimated outer dimensions, which include both the image and the frame. While we aim to keep sizing consistent, exact dimensions may vary slightly due to differences in print size or production requirements, which may result in a variation in the overall size (up to approximately 2.5cm (1"))
