Framed Print of Mexican-American War, Siege of Veracruz, 1847
Lithograph entitled and captioned: "Siege of Veracruz, March, 1847. US Army under General Scott 12100. US Navy under Commander Perry. US loss 15 killed and 50 wounded. The bombardment commenced on March 22nd at four-fifteen PM, and was incessant day and night until the morning of the 26, at which time overtures were made for a capitulation of the city and also the Castle of San Juan de Ulloa (the Gibraltar of America). On March 27th the garrisons of both city and Castle surrendered as prisoners of war to the victorious arms of the United States." The Battle of Veracruz was a 20-day siege of the key Mexican beachhead seaport of Veracruz, lasting from March 9-29th in 1847. It began with the first large-scale amphibious assault conducted by United States military forces, and ended with the surrender and occupation of the city. The Mexican-American War was an armed conflict between the United States of America and Mexico from 1846 to 1848 in the wake of the 1845 US annexation of Texas. Wood effect frame, card mounted, 10x8 fade resistant photo print. Overall outside dimensions 14x12 inches (36x31cm). Environmentally and ozone friendly, 40mm wide x 15mm Polycore® moulding has the look of real wood, is durable and light and easy to hang. Biodegradable and made with non-chlorinated gases (no toxic fumes) it is efficient; producing 100 tons of polystyrene can save 300 tons of trees! Prints are glazed with lightweight, shatterproof, optical clarity acrylic (providing the same general protection from the environment as glass). The back is stapled hardboard with a sawtooth hanger attached. Note: measurements provided are estimated outer dimensions, which include both the image and the frame.
