Framed Print of Medical Students and Cadavers, 1910s
Interior of an unidentified classroom, with a group of students and three cadavers. No photographer credit, undated, 1910s. Human cadavers are often used in medical teaching for the purposes of anatomy or surgical instruction.[4][48] Cadavers are selected according to their anatomy and availability. They may be used as part of dissection courses involving a "fresh" specimen so as to be as realistic as possible - for example, when training surgeons.Cadavers may also be predissected by trained instructors. This form of dissection involves the preparation and preservation of specimens for a longer time period and is generally used for the teaching of anatomy. © National Library of Medicine / Science Source
