Framed Print of Franklin Pierce, 14th U.S. President
Franklin Pierce (November 23, 1804 - October 8, 1869) was the 14th President of the USA (1853-57). He was a Democrat and a "doughface" (a Northerner with Southern sympathies) who served in the House of Representatives and the Senate. He took part in the Mexican-American War and became a brigadier general in the Army. As president, he made many divisive decisions which were widely criticized and earned him a reputation as one of the worst presidents in US. history. His popularity in the Northern states declined sharply after he supported the Kansas-Nebraska Act, which replaced the Missouri Compromise and renewed debate over the expansion of slavery in the American West. Pierce's credibility was further damaged when several of his diplomats issued the Ostend Manifesto. He was not renominated to run in the 1856 presidential election. His reputation was destroyed during the Civil War when he declared support for the Confederacy. He suffered great tragedy in his personal life; all of his children died young. He died in 1869, at the age of 64, from cirrhosis of the liver. © New York Public Library / Science Source

Wood effect frame, card mounted, 10x8 fade resistant photo print. Overall outside dimensions 14x12 inches (36x31cm). Environmentally and ozone friendly, 40mm wide x 15mm Polycore® moulding has the look of real wood, is durable and light and easy to hang. Biodegradable and made with non-chlorinated gases (no toxic fumes) it is efficient; producing 100 tons of polystyrene can save 300 tons of trees! Prints are glazed with lightweight, shatterproof, optical clarity acrylic (providing the same general protection from the environment as glass). The back is stapled hardboard with a sawtooth hanger attached. Note: measurements provided are estimated outer dimensions, which include both the image and the frame. While we aim to keep sizing consistent, exact dimensions may vary slightly due to differences in print size or production requirements, which may result in a variation in the overall size (up to approximately 2.5cm (1"))
