Framed Print of Anatomie Generale Des Visceres
Anatomical illustration from Anatomie generale des visceres by Gautier d'Agoty. This illustration is a frontal view of the pelvis, hips, and upper legs. Anatomie Generaled is considered a monumental work and is thought to have been printed in Paris in 1752. Gautier associated himself with surgeon Jacques-Francois-Marie Duverney (1661-1748) and together the two produced a number of large, colorful anatomical atlases, which were noted more for their style and sometimes their shocking appearance than their usefulness to physicians. After Duverney's death, Antoine Mertrud (d. 1767) also worked with the printer to create several other anatomical works. Jacques Gautier d'Agoty died in Paris in 1785. © NLM / Science Source
